Angola’s Creative Economy: Film, Fashion and Music on the Rise

A New Wave of Creative Energy

After decades of focusing on oil, Angola is now investing in its creative economy with a new generation of artists, filmmakers, fashion designers, and musicians turning Luanda into a vibrant cultural capital. This shift is not only changing global perceptions of Angola but creating new jobs and export revenue.

Film and Television Gains Traction

Platforms like ZAP studios and independent filmmakers are producing Angolan TV series and documentation that are gaining traction across Lusophone Africa and even in Brazil and Portugal. The Luanda Film Festival is now a regional hub for showcasing African talent.

The Rise of Kizomba and Kuduro

Angolan music genres like Kizomba and Kudoro are internationally recognized, with artists touring Europe and collaborating with global stars. Local music streaming platforms and youtube channels are helping monetize digital audiences.

Fashion and Design Exports

Young designers like Soraya da Peidade and Rosa de Porcelana are putting Angolan fashion on the map. Supported by the Ministry of Culture and private sponsors, fashion weeks and design schools are turning talent into economic opportunity.

Diversifying the Economy, Creatively

The creative economy already contributes over 3% to Angola’s GDP, and with rising youth engagement, the sector is becoming a viable career path and national asset.
