SANParks launches a Golden Gate Zipline in Free State

This weekend, the South African National Parks (SANParks) launched the seven (7) cables and platforms zipline adventure at the Golden Gate Highlands National Park called Golden Gate Zipline.

The zipline is open for visitors at a rate of R650 per person. The adventure lasts approximately 1 hour and takes you across 7 zipline cables and platforms, with the longest stretching 650 meters. The zipline adventure starts at an altitude of approximately 1,300 metres above sea level and ends at around 1,200 metres above sea level. The experience is open for visitors 6 years and older with a maximum weight limit of 120kg.

Golden Gate Zipline was launched under the theme “Experience Golden Gate from a Perspective,” drawing attention to the product whilst emphasizing other magnificent and world class offerings in the National Park.

The zipline complements existing visitor experiences such as the Kgodumodumo Dinosaur Interpretation Centre, scenic drives, hiking trails and accommodation facilities, providing additional reasons for visitors to choose Golden Gate Highlands National Park as a destination of choice.

SANParks Head of Communication JP Louw said the attraction could help increase the park’s appeal, particularly among younger visitors.

“We are hoping that what the zipline will do is to just grow the traction of this area,” Louw said, adding that SANParks expects the attraction to bring a more youthful clientele to the park.
